It\u2019s about whether it lives.<br \/>Whether it has blood in it. Whether you left the humanity intact\u2014or edited it<br \/>into submission.<br \/><br \/><strong>Emotional Alignment<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Does the mix support the core emotion of the song?<\/strong><br \/>(Not \u201cDoes it sound good?\u201d but \u201cDoes it hurt where it\u2019s supposed to<br \/>hurt?\u201d)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Does the vocal feel present and alive\u2014even if it\u2019s not perfect?<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Do the dynamics tell a story?<\/strong><br \/>(Or did I flatten it into a toothpaste commercial?)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Is there a moment that gives me chills, or makes me smile\/frown<\/strong><br \/><strong>involuntarily?<\/strong><br \/>(If not, why not?)<br \/><br \/><strong>Sonic Humanity<br \/><br \/><\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Did I preserve at least one \u201cmistake\u201d that made it more human?<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Did I let something be too loud or too dirty on purpose, because it felt<\/strong><br \/><strong>right?<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Is anything too clean for its own good?<\/strong><br \/>(Overtuned? Over-sanitized?)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Did I reference with my gut, not just my meters?<br \/><\/strong><br \/><strong>Movement &amp; Space<br \/><br \/><\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Did I automate anything for feel\u2014not function?<\/strong><br \/>(Volume swells, reverb throws, panning quirks?)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Do the transitions between sections pull the listener in emotionally?<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Did I use reverb\/delay as emotional punctuation\u2014not just glue?<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Does the mix breathe?<\/strong><br \/>(Or is it one long, compressed exhale?)<br \/><br \/><strong>Final Sanity Questions<\/strong><br \/><br \/><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>If this were the only mix I left behind, would I be okay with that?<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Would I send this to someone I respect\u2014not because it\u2019s perfect, but<br \/>because it\u2019s honest?<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>If I lost the session and couldn\u2019t fix it, would I still be proud?<br \/><br \/><em>Remember: No one falls in love with a mix.
